Tile and slate repairs, re-roofing, bay roofs, flat roofs and chimney work on Mitcham homes.
Our roofers work across Mitcham and CR4. Most inter-war semis here have hipped tiled roofs, often with a small roof over the bay window, the Edwardian terraces mostly have slate, and many houses have a flat roof on a rear extension or garage. The older buildings around Cricket Green add clay tile, pantile and slate roofs, some with hidden central valley gutters.
On a hipped roof the weak points are the hip and ridge tiles, which are bedded in mortar that cracks and loosens over time, and the valleys where two slopes meet. We re-bed or dry-fix ridges and hips, replace broken tiles and renew valleys before they let water in.
We also re-roof when the tiles or battens have failed, replace felt flat roofs with GRP or EPDM, repair the small roofs over bay windows and porches, and repoint or rebuild chimney stacks.
Covers: Tiled, slate and flat roofs

From a loose ridge tile to a full re-roof.
Some inter-war roofs have been re-covered in heavier concrete tiles over the years, which can make old rafters sag. If you are re-roofing, we check the timbers and choose a tile that suits the structure and the other half of the semi.
In the Cricket Green conservation area, Merton’s appraisal records roofs of plain clay tile, pantile and slate, and many older buildings with London roofs drained by a central valley gutter. We repair these in matching materials, and check whether listed building consent is needed on listed buildings.
Roof and loft checked to find the cause.
A written quote explaining the problem and the fix.
Scaffold or access set up, then the repair or re-roof.
Gutters cleared, site tidied and access removed.
It’s worth fixing soon. Loose ridge and hip tiles let water in and can fall in high winds. We re-bed them in mortar or fit a dry ridge system.
Usually the small roof over the bay, or the flashing where it meets the wall, has failed. We repair or re-cover it and renew the flashing.
Usually. We source a matching tile, or reclaimed tiles where the original is no longer made, so the pair still looks right.
Yes. We strip the old covering, check the deck and lay a GRP or EPDM roof with new trims.
For most work at roof level, yes, or a tower for small jobs. We arrange it, including any licence needed if it stands on the pavement.
Roofing is one of ten building services we offer across Mitcham and CR4. If your project needs more than one, we run them as a single job.
