Roof repairs, re-roofing, valley gutters and leadwork on Clapham’s Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian houses.
We repair and renew roofs across Clapham and SW4. The older houses near the Old Town and the Common often have roofs hidden behind parapet walls, drained by lead-lined valley and parapet gutters that are a common source of leaks. The Victorian and Edwardian terraces further out mostly have slate main roofs with flat roofs over the back additions. We work on all of them.
Leaks on a parapet roof are often traced to the hidden gutters behind the parapet or in the central valley, where old lead splits or debris blocks the outlet. Water then runs into the walls and the top-floor ceilings. We clear, repair or re-line these gutters and repoint the parapets.
On pitched roofs we replace slipped and broken slates and tiles, re-roof in natural slate or clay tile when the covering has failed, and renew flashings around chimneys and party walls. We also replace felt flat roofs over back additions and dormers with GRP or EPDM.

Small repairs through to full re-roofs.
On a listed house, like-for-like roof repairs generally do not need consent, but re-roofing in a different material, or changes to parapets, chimneys or rooflines, need listed building consent. In Clapham’s conservation areas we re-cover in natural slate or clay tile to match the street rather than switching to a cheaper material.
Pavement scaffolding needs a licence from the highway authority. For most Clapham streets that is Lambeth, and on the far side of the Common it is Wandsworth. On the main roads that Transport for London manages, the licence comes from TfL. We apply for it as part of the job.
From the loft and the roof, to find where the water is getting in.
A written quote, then scaffold and any licence arranged.
The work carried out in matching materials.
Gutters and outlets tested, the site cleared and the scaffold taken down.
On older Clapham houses it is often a blocked or split gutter behind the parapet, or a failed valley gutter between the roof slopes. We inspect it and repair or re-line the gutter.
Like-for-like repairs generally do not. Changing the roofing material, or altering chimneys or parapets, needs listed building consent. We check before quoting.
On period houses, and especially in conservation areas, we recommend natural slate. It lasts far longer and matches the neighbouring roofs.
Yes. We strip the old felt, repair the deck and lay a GRP or EPDM roof with new edge trims and flashings.
We do. Depending on the road, it comes from Lambeth, Wandsworth or Transport for London.
Roofing is one of ten building services we offer across Clapham and SW4. If your project needs more than one, we run them as a single job.
